I love my gear! On this page I'll describe the equipment I use in the hunt for monster cats and  its special place in the equation.

This page will be about boats , rods , reels ,line , hooks ,weights , swivels, baits ,livetanks and etc. ,on and on blah blah blah !  You get the drift ! LOL!  Just my take on the best chance to land a behemoth from the deep .

Just a bit about my tackle. Currently I'm using Berkely Glo-Stick 7 and 8 ft catfish rods. I have 3 ABU Garcia reels in various models and three Bass Pro Catmaxx baitcasters. For line I'm currently using Eagle Claw 50 lb flouresant green line .For hooks I use either Gamakatsu 8/0 circle hooks or Austrailian Octopus 8/0 J style Bleeding red hooks or Eagle Claw 8/0 stainless Kahle hooks. For weights I use either 5 ounce no-rolls or 5 ounce bank sinkers. I rig either carolina style or a three way rig. The weights may vary depending on currents. This is what I most often use in big cat situations. You can e-mail me for more info. I will also post some pictures and diagrams on my poles and rigging soon. Thanks and good fishing !  Earl.

I guess I'll start with some photos of my live tanks. After all, the live bait is a very critical part of the catching formula. A day without live bait is like a day you should stay on the bank ! Their homade by me out of easy to obtain materials. I'll explain them in another article later. This particular tank is my transport tank. If I'm getting bait from a local pond or creek or even netting shad somewhere other than where I'm gonna fish , I use this 12 volt portable tank to transport them to my launch site. Once there , I simply transfer them over to my boat tank. ( shown in the next picture.

This one is my portable boat tank. Complete with a strain filter and 500 gph pump , it will keep my bait alive for as long as I  need bait. It is also homemade (poor boys can survive) out of very affordable and easy to obtain items. I just transfer my bait from the large tank into this one at the boat ramp. I also use some salt and bait saver to both tanks which I will also get into later.

This is my current cat boat. It has a 25 hp Johnson motor and a Bass Pro trolling motor . It is equiped with 6 adjustable rod holders and twelve bases to move them to on both sides of the boat. I have a Eagle fish finder with temp reading for my electronics. It's a 15/5 ft Lowe flatbottom Jon with a 02 Fisher Trailer. It ain't big or fancy but she's mine and she loads the fish ! LOL !
